This is a question that has bothered me for years once I realized a lot of the companies I invest in through index funds are not aligned with my core values.
Join us for an eye-opening session with Janine Firpo, author of Activate Your Money and advocate for value-based investing, as we explore how to align your financial decisions and investments with the causes you care about most.
Janine and I will guide students through the basics of value-based investing, a strategy that allows individuals to grow their wealth while supporting social, environmental, and ethical goals.
With real-world examples and actionable tips, this session will cover:
- What is value-based investing and why does it matter what I invest in?
- How do I align my investments with my personal values (and what are my personal values anyway?)?
- What are my first steps to start using my money to create meaningful change?
- How do I figure out which companies or funds also support my values?
If you are talking about investing or wrapping up a personal finance course, this can be an amazing conversation to have with students as we promote action on getting started with investing and intentionally choosing what we invest in.

JANINE FIRPO is a values-aligned investor and social innovator. In 2017 she left a successful 35+ year career in technology and international development to focus on how women can create a more just and equitable society through their financial investments. Her book, Activate Your Money, was published in May 2021. Later that year, Janine co-founded Invest for Better, a non-profit organization that helps women invest their money in ways that align with their values. In 2024, Forbes named Janine one of “50 Over 50” female leaders who continue to make impact later in life.
